Volaris Opens New Monterrey Base

February 4, 2014
  • Eight destinations added for service from Monterrey, in addition to three that are currently operating. Direct flights will now be available to Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Culiacán, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Veracruz, Mérida, and Cancún

Mexico City, February 4, 2014.
- Volaris, the airline featuring the most attractive fares and promotions in Mexico, announced today the opening of a new base located in the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon out of which eight new daily flights will service a total 11 domestic destinations throughout Mexico.

For the operations, Volaris will base at least three A320s out of Monterrey, plus a team of Ambassadors composed of pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, and administrative staff. The opening will take the carrier to a milestone 105% growth in operations from this city, compared to the previous year.

“Consolidating out of Monterrey is one of Volaris’ objectives for 2014,” said Volaris CEO, Enrique Beltranena. “We are committed to offering locals more and better connectivity options at fares that will make them want to travel. We also appreciate the support we’ve received from Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) in this endeavor, financially promoting and helping with the set up of this new base.”

The new base will operate eight new routes from the Monterrey airport to the cities of Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Culiacán, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Veracruz, Mérida, and Cancún on services that are already being offered to the traveling public. This is in addition to the three previously established direct flights operating from Mexico City, Tijuana, and Guadalajara.

With the inauguration of this new base of operations Volaris now totals five throughout the country. The other four are located in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tijuana, and Cancún. These bases are of critical importance for the carrier, as every one of them has facilities for aircraft maintenance, resource coordination for that particular region, and the important point-to-point operation that Volaris strategy is based upon.

“The new Monterrey base is our way of placing our bets in this northern Mexican location, and its operation will be very important to pursue our expansion strategy. Basing staff and airplanes out of Monterrey will help us become even more efficient and reduce operational costs, which in turn allows us to offer lower fares to all our customers,” Beltranena added.

Flights have been available for booking on the Monterrey routes since December 2013 at very attractive fares, with the buy-ahead approach and Volaris’ innovative You Decide scheme, Tú Decides, whereby travelers specifically choose those services they need for their travel. Booking is available through all Volaris sales channels including online at www.volaris.com, our Call Center in Mexico at 01-800-122-8000, or with any of our authorized travel agencies.
